Why Are Women So Amazing?
International Women’s Day 2020
Why are women so amazing you ask? From giving birth to supplying every human being on Earth with cellular energy, here are 5 facts that prove how biologically amazing women are.

1. Big Brains
Women develop larger prefrontal and temporal brain areas of the cortex compared to men. These parts of the brain are responsible for cognition, personality, decision making about the future, and moderating social behavior. These areas develop 6 years earlier in girls than in boys and are found to be larger. When it comes to expressing oneself and future planning, women are just more evolutionarily gifted.
2. Energy Factory
If you’ve ever sat through a high school biology class, you probably walked away remembering that the mitochondria is the ‘powerhouse of the cell’. This means that the energy needed to get yourself out of bed and/or eat a burger is all fueled by the mitochondria located in your body cells. Scientists have discovered that during fertilization, both the egg and sperm contribute genetic information; however, only the egg has mitochondria that survive to grow the baby. Thereby, all the energy that is needed to do anything is accomplished by the mitochondria from our mothers. Thanks Mom!
3. A Backup Chromosome
The factor that determines the development of a male verses a female is the 23rd pair of DNA chromosomes, the sex chromosomes. Women have two X chromosomes (XX), and men have an X and Y chromosome (XY). Because of this, women have a “back up” X chromosome which gives extra protection against certain defects caused by genes on the X chromosome. For example, if a male baby has the gene for color blindness on his X chromosome, then he will be color blind. However, if a female baby has a color-blind gene on one X and a normal gene on her second X, then she will not be color blind. In this way, the second X becomes a protective back up security measure.
4. Ambidextrous Mind
Women and men process information differently by the way we use our right and left-brain hemispheres. Men tend to be more single tasked focused because they mostly use the left hemisphere of their brain; however, women tend to employ both the right and left hemispheres which is what scientists call an inter-hemispheric brain. This means that women make more efficient neuron connections that allow both sides of the brain to work together in decision making and communication.
5. Life Vessels
Women are the chosen organisms that act as vessels for new life because they have wombs. The interior of the uterus provides the perfect conditions necessary to grow cells and develop nutrient transport systems to the baby. It is widely known that the pregnancy and birth process is no easy feat and often has negative connotations. However, the ability for women to bring life into the world while also being caregivers, educators, leaders, etc. is worth being admired for.
Men and women were both uniquely created for special purposes in the Earth. It is important to celebrate the differences that exist among people in the world, because it highlights the reasons why everyone is needed in society.
Proverbs 31:30 – ‘Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.’
1 Corinthians 11:11-12 – ‘Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.’
